An innovative start-up based at the Northern Ireland Science Park has launched one of the first patent information apps for iPads which will provide key details of prescription drugs for medical professionals and patients, providing commercial opportunities for pharmaceutical companies keen to cost effectively develop generic drugs.

Patentnav, an intellectual property service consultancy, created the AtoZGenerics app which provides information on European and US patent expiry dates. The app covers common drugs such as Lipitor, the cholesterol lowering pill and Plavix, for those with heart related illness, along with some lesser known prescribed drugs.

For as long as the iPhone has been around, there have been those who have tried to do more with it than what Apple are offering to them. They go about doing this by “Jailbreaking” the phone, to allow apps that have not been approved by Apple. But why do this?

I keep my elevator pitch simple and just describe the services that Digital Robot Software can offer such as consultation, design, development, testing, training and support on a range of different mobile and desktop platforms and when people want to know more I always keep some of our applications on my iPhone, so I can show them examples of our work.
