After breaking nearly every phone I have ever owned when I bought an iPhone I decided that maybe it wasent the best phone to take off roading, to scout camps or the numerous other outdoorman type things I get up which usually end up in a £400 paper weight.

I set about looking for a phone, just for calls, one I could drop, use in the rain and generally abuse.  When I worked for Phones4u we sold the Sonim x1, supposedly the worlds toughest phone, the only problem with this was we sold it (by the truck load to farmers) for the hefty price tag of £450.

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, 15th February 2010 - Aepona, a global provider of telecoms software products and services headquartered in Belfast, Northern Ireland, today announced that it has been selected by the GSMA for its launch of the world’s first commercial implementation of OneAPI, a groundbreaking initiative that aims to make it much easier for application providers and enterprises to mobile-enable their applications and services across multiple operators. The service is being launched in Canada as a commercial Pilot, connecting to the three major Canadian mobile operators – Bell Mobility, TELUS and Rogers Wireless.

The GSMA chose Aepona as its prime contractor and platform supplier for the Pilot following a rigorous selection process.

Invest Northern Ireland today launched its new Market Visits programme for 2010-11 which features over 70 trade missions and exhibitions to help local companies develop global export opportunities.

More than 15 events will target the important Middle East region including markets such as the Saudi Arabian centres of Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar, as well as the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Oman. The Deloitte Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Industry Group have announced its predictions for 2010.

The annual report highlights the significant impact the ‘prosumer’ - employees who buy technology devices for both work and play – will have on companies’ purchasing decisions. Movidius, an award winning mobile technology company from Dublin, has set up a £2.7 million R&D centre in Belfast with support from Invest Northern Ireland.

The investment, announced today by Alastair Hamilton, Invest NI Chief Executive and Sean Mitchell, Movidius’ Chief Executive Officer, is applying revolutionary technology to enable manufacturers of mobile phones and other hand-held devices to offer customers the ability to capture, view and edit high resolution video, directly on their handset, for sharing with family, friends and others on social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and You Tube.

Belfast-based Aepona, a leading supplier of software products and services to global telecommunications operators, has been shortlisted for a major international award at the world’s biggest mobile technology event which takes place next month.   The company is in the running for the Best Service Delivery Platform category of the GSM Association’s (GSMA) annual Global Mobile Awards to be presented in Barcelona on February 16.     The nomination is for Aepona’s Universal Service Platform (USP) that allows telecoms companies to collaborate closely with IT and Web developers to enable a potentially vast range of new services to be deployed.

Appographs put a modern spin on the traditional autograph book concept. Pictures are preloaded and the stars signature recorded by writing with a finger on the iPhone screen.
